While Emily and Rebecca were trying to have some fun rollerblading in the front yard, Rebecca fell and sustained a devastating injury that put a damper on her summer fun and work. At first I thought she had just sprained it, but after resting for a week in a temporary cast from the doctor so the swelling from Rebecca's break could go down. We sought a second opinion from our friend who is an orthopedic surgeon and discovered that not only had she broken the bone on the right side of her foot, but she also tore the left side and required an expensive surgery requiring plates and screws to properly realign her foot. Her reaction to the anesthesia was hilarious and while she was still out of it she kept loudly whispering that the "mean staff" didn't give her enough pain medication and she wanted me to sneak some more from the counter. Jared later gave her a vitamin "placebo" to appease her demands. She had to wear crutches and a boot until the week she moved out and started college
Having her wisdom teeth out just a few days later was a piece of cake compared to her terrible surgery experience.
Unfortunately working as a waitress wasn't possible for her with crutches so she had to take several months off of work and hobbled around on a knee crutch around the house.
